Badania
Cele badawcze
Badania mają zarówno charakter poznawczy jak i aplikacyjny. Obliczenia ab initio prowadzone dla związków międzymetalicznych typu 4f-3d oraz 5f-3d koncentrują się na określeniu: struktury elektronowej, właściwości optycznych, magnetycznych i ferroelektrycznych oraz termodynamicznych. Zainteresowaniem cieszą się również charakterystyki prądowo-napięciowe i spintroniczne układów mezoskopowych o różnych wymiarowościach (kwantowe druty, kontakty i kropki kwantowe). Badane są m.in. silne korelacje elektronowe, elektryczna kontrola spinowych stopni swobody układu, możliwości splątania elektronów oraz pojawianie się stanów Majorany. Własności te są kluczowe z punktu widzenia potencjalnych zastosowań w komputerach kwantowych.
Profil badawczy
Badania teoretyczne zjawisk kooperatywnych w ciele stałym w oparciu o rozważania modelowe jak i o nowoczesne podejście obliczeń ab initio. Stosowany jest formalizm równowagowych jak i nierównowagowych funkcji Greena w różnych przybliżeniach, uwzględniających silne korelacje elektronowe, wspierany przez realistyczne metody numeryczne. Pozwala to na kompleksowe badania ciała stałego począwszy od przewidywania struktury krystalicznej i elektronowej, poprzez własności termodynamiczne i nierównowagowy transport elektronowy, a skończywszy na efektach splątania i pojawiania się stanów fermionowych o nie-abelowej statystyce. Posiadane wieloprocesorowe serwery umożliwiają obliczenia w sposób zrównoleglony.

Osiągnięcia naukowe
- Zaproponowano nowe rozwiązanie kubitu spinowego opartego na trzech kropkach kwantowych. Wykorzystując zmianę symetrii tej sztucznej, trójkątnej molekuły pokazano jak można przygotować stan kubitu, przeprowadzić (jednokubitowe) operacje logiczne oraz odczytać jego końcowy stan. Wszystkie operacje na tym spinowym kubicie wykonywane są elektrycznie, a zatem kompatybilnie do tradycyjnych operacji na elektronicznych układach półprzewodnikowych. Najważniejszym wynikiem badań jest zaproponowanie nowego sposobu odczytu stanów kubitowych poprzez pomiar prądów w reżimie blokady dubletowej [J. Łuczak, B.R. Bułka, Phys. Rev. B 90, 165427 (2014)]
- Zbadano rozkład gęstości spinowej i ładunkowej w komórce elementarnej UCuSb2. Oddziaływanie elektronów 5f uranu z elektronami przewodnictwa często są niedokładnie opisane ze względu na dużą rolę oddziaływań korelacyjnych. Dzięki zastosowaniu nowoczesnych metod obliczeniowych typu ab initio udało się odtworzyć zmierzone widma fotoemisyjne w zakresie promieniowania rentgenowskiego i wygenerować przestrzenny rozkład poszczególnych płatów powierzchni Fermiego [M. Werwiński et al., Comp. Mat. Sci. 81, 402 (2014)]
- W ramach teorii funkcjonału gęstości (DFT), posługując się przybliżeniem PAW (Projected Augmented-Wave), została zoptymalizowana struktura krystalograficzna i zbadana struktura elektronowa benzimidazolu. Obliczenia z pierwszych zasad pozwoliły na wyznaczenie teoretycznego widma NMR dla atomów węgla 13C. Otrzymano bardzo dobrą zgodność wyniku teoretycznego z eksperymentalnym widmem NMR dla benzimidazolu. Dzięki teoretycznemu wynikowi M. Pugaczowej-Michalskiej można było dokładnie ustalić źródło poszczególnych linii rezonansowych zarejestrowanych w widmie NMR. [K. Pogorzelec-Glaser et al., CrystEngComm 15, 1950 (2013)]
- Opis i wyjaśnienie zmiany znaku tunelowego magnetooporu kropki kwantowej połączonej ze spinowo spolaryzowanymi elektrodami, gdy zmienia się napięcie bramki. Pokazano, że anomalie magnetooporu mogą mieć swoje źródło zarówno w oddziaływaniach jednocząstkowych jak i wielocząstkowych elektronów na kropce, a otrzymane przewidywania tłumaczą wyniki eksperymentalne. [P. Stefański, Phys. Rev. B 79, 085312 (2009)]
- Zbadano właściwości elektronowe i ferroelektryczne multiferroika BiFeO3 domieszkowanego pierwiastkami ziem rzadkich. Pokazano, że pojedynczy atom pierwiastka ziemi rzadkiej prowadzi do obniżenia spontanicznej polaryzacji ferroelektrycznej. Ponadto wyznaczono strukturę elektronową i dynamikę sieci BiGaO3 z wykorzystaniem potencjałów hybrydowych oraz określono strukturę elektronową nowych nadprzewodników niecentrosymetrycznych CaPtSi3 oraz CaIrSi3 [J. Kaczkowski, A. Jezierski, J. Alloys Compd. 509, 6142 (2011)]
